Community living is one of the foundations of the CAP Volunteer Program, and is often the most enjoyable, and perhaps most challenging, part of a volunteer’s experience in Kentucky.

Most CAP volunteers live in one of the four volunteer houses located in different counties throughout eastern Kentucky. All the houses are unique, and accommodate different numbers of people. Each volunteer usually has his or her own room, and shares bathroom facilities, living room space, kitchen and laundry facilities.

All the houses are fully furnished, and linens are also provided. (A list of personal items to bring will be sent to all volunteers in their acceptance letter/ packet). Volunteers take turns preparing the evening meal, eat the meal together and then share in a time of prayer and reflection. All volunteers also share in the chores and upkeep of the house.  

CAP does offer an "Independent Living" option for volunteers who are retired and/ or married, and prefer not to live in community. There are benefits available for volunteers who choose the Independent Living option, including a food stipend, a modest living allowance and potential health benefits. Please contact Kathy Kluesener in the Volunteer Program office for more details about this option.
